CONTINUING CARE

Building a New Life in Recovery

Continuing Care for Drug and Alcohol Addiction

After completing a Partial Hospitalization/Day Treatment Program or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), individuals benefit from maintaining a close connection with a therapeutic environment.

RESET Addiction Recovery Center’s Continuing Care program for drug rehab and alcohol rehab provides support, counseling and therapy to help patients overcome challenges and continue the healing process while transitioning out of a more structured program and back to regular life.

By participating in Continuing Care, patients continue to make progress in their recovery, reaching new milestones of sobriety and ensuring daily routines support a lasting recovery. Patients work on developing healthy sleep, nutrition, exercise and recreation habits to enhance their health and well-being. In Continuing Care, patients put the skills learned in earlier phases of treatment into use in the real world, gaining experience in successfully coping with the stress and pressure of work and family responsibilities as sober individuals.

Through ongoing therapy and counseling, men and women in recovery continue to learn new life, communication and relationship skills, while becoming more comfortable and accustomed to practicing them in their daily routines.

Our expert Continuing Care clinical team also continues to provide help with managing co-occurring conditions, ensuring that patients feel physically and mentally healthy, which increases the likelihood of sustaining sobriety.

Why Continuing Care Addiction Treatment?

In a partial hospitalization program (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP), individuals often make lots of progress in restoring their health. With the body no longer flooded with toxic chemicals, they sleep better, eat better and start to incorporate physical activity into their lives again, helping them become physically stronger. With the mind no longer under the influence of substances that cause them to think and behave like strangers to themselves and their loved ones, they start to think more clearly and their true personalities start to shine again.

Through psychotherapy and addiction counseling in PHP and IOP, individuals in recovery address the underlying causes of addiction, such as past trauma, depression or anxiety. They start to restore their sense of self-worth, recognize and cope with triggers, find better ways to deal with stress, and rebuild trust with their families. They also learn practical strategies for embracing and enjoying their new lives in sobriety.

But the nature of alcohol and drug addiction means there is no quick fix. Recovery is a long journey, and the skills learned in alcohol rehab or drug rehab need to be incorporated into everyday life permanently. New ways of thinking, reacting to stress, solving problems and interacting with others need time to become lasting habits.

The ongoing social and emotional support offered in Continuing Care also provides protection from relapse. Participating in a Continuing Care program provides structure, support and a sense of connection that helps strengthen the foundation for a sober life. In a safe and accepting environment, men and women in recovery build on the progress made in PHP and IOP.

In Continuing Care, individuals have the opportunity to give and receive encouragement from with sober peers who understand the challenges of overcoming alcohol and drug addiction. The sense of belonging and accountability can help people avoid the isolation that can be associated with relapse.

RESET Continuing Care Services

The transition out of more intensive programs and back into regular life is a time that must be handled with great care. During this time, we stress the importance of working on relationships with family, the self and, for those who wish to incorporate spiritual guidance into their recovery, a higher power. Each can assist with true healing and freedom from drug and alcohol use. Our Continuing Care services for drug and alcohol rehab include:

  • Individual therapy, with a flexible schedule to allow individuals to go to work, school or volunteer in the community.
  • Family therapy, to help families continue to restore the bonds that may have been shattered because of their loved one’s behavior when using drugs and alcohol. The healing process for individual family members, as well as the family unit as a whole, doesn’t happen overnight.

  • Group therapy, where patients can feel safe freely discussing issues, giving and receiving advice from others, and celebrating each other’s progress.
  • Random urine drug screens.

The Importance of Peer Support

An important element of Continuing Care at RESET Addiction Recovery Center is participating in peer support groups. Peer support prevents isolation and provides a source emotional support that can help in overcoming challenges that crop up in everyone’s lives, but that may be especially dangerous for those in recovery.

Peers in recovery can recognize potential triggers, offering practical advice on dealing with these potential pitfalls and helping to keep the individual in recovery accountable. Benefits of a peer support group after alcohol and drug treatment include:

  • Developing friendships with others who are committed to staying drug and alcohol free.
  • Rebuilding self-esteem and feelings of belonging.
  • Reducing stress or depression through fun and meaningful social interactions.
  • Sharing knowledge and advice on navigating everyday life in sobriety.

Our support groups consist of members with similar addiction struggles, who have completed treatment and together are learning how to handle some of the challenges involved with maintaining long-term sobriety. Sessions are led by mental health professionals and/or former addicts who have achieve long-term sobriety and are able to provide encouragement, feedback and support to help prevent a drug or alcohol relapse.
